How much do you charge for a website?
Our website packages usually range from $1997 – $4997. However it really depends on what kind of website you need. We recently wrote a full guide on how much it costs for a website to give you an idea of the different options available.
Why are you so expensive?
The process we use to build your website takes a certain amount of time and a lot of planning and research. Unlike other agencies, we DON’T use templates. We build your website from scratch, which means you get a unique design tailored around your business. Buying a website from us should not just simply be seen as a business expense as your website is a sales tool that should earn you money.
Why are you so cheap?
Yep. We’ve also been asked that question too. We spend a lot of time researching, planning the user’s journey through your site and then finally with the design and build. We’re typically cheaper than larger agencies because…
We work remotely which means you don’t pay for the water cooler or beanbag chairs
We’re a small team who take on a limited amount of clients each year. You won’t be talking to account managers, you’ll talk directly to the owner, a.k.a Hamza. This saves on staff costs.
How long does it take to build a website?
It takes approximately 6-10 weeks to build a website from start to finish, providing we have all the information from you. Our full web design process is broken down here. Generally speaking, the website will only take a long time if we are still waiting for text and images from yourself.
How do we communicate throughout the website build?
Before we begin working together, we’ll usually have an initial chat on the phone or via Skype to discuss the project. Once we get started, most of the communication will take place over Skype/WhatsApp or any medium you like.
This makes the process a lot easier as we’ll have all of the information saved and can come back to it later. Once we’ve finished the project, we will book in your 1hr digital marketing training session.
What will you need from me?
It really depends on what type of website you want. We’ll be able to discuss this on our discovery call before we start working together. Depending on which package we agree on we could need…
Domain credential (if any)
Hosting credential (if any)
Images of you and your team
Images of your workplace
Content for the website e.g. text, PDFs etc
Staff Profiles
Any Videos you would like adding to the website
Login details to your existing website
Some of this might already be on the existing website, in which case it can be transferred over to the new site.
What if I don’t like the website?
You’re in luck. We offer a risk-free guarantee. Before we build your new website, we’ll design a mockup of your homepage. We’ll design a layout in Photoshop first, that way you’ll get to see our initial designs within approximately ten days. This is your opportunity to give us feedback and if you really don’t like it, you don’t have to move forward. Best part is, this won’t cost you anything.
Do you offer a payment schedule?
Yes, we split the payment into two. The first 50% is usually taken once you have seen the mockup of your homepage and you’re happy to move forward. The following 50% is taken 30 days after this.
Can I make the final payment when the site is ready to go live?
No. In the past we have found that projects can take a lot longer than expected to complete. We might be waiting for information from you and this can delay the process. Sometimes these delays can take months. This is why we always invoice 30 days after the original payment. At this point we’ll be well on our way with your new website and you’ll be able to see the progress.
Who hosts the website?
If we build your website, we will generally manage the hosting for you so you don’t need to do anything. We use the same hosting company for our own website and for ALL our clients. Each website is managed individually to avoid any security issues. Every website we build has unlimited bandwidth, 20GB of disk space, 2GB Ram and 99.9% uptime. We’ve used the same company for 5 years and we don’t plan on changing this anytime soon.
If you’re interested, the company we use is mddhosting.
What if I don’t want to manage the website at all. Can you do it all for me?
Yes, we can arrange a maintenance package to suit your needs. This can range from 1hr per month to 10 hours per month and we can discuss a package that’s right for you.
Can I update the website myself once it’s been built?
Yes. We like to offer the ability for our clients to update the website themselves. We we’ll give you all the training and tools to be able to make website amendments. We use an easy to use platform called WordPress so you can add, edit and delete content without paying us to do it for you but you would require training for this.
I want to have an email signup form on my website? How can we do this?
When we design your website, we’ll build in all the features you want, including an email sign-up form. As we design all our websites from scratch, we’ll make sure it fits in with your website style and branding.
What you will need is an email marketing platform such as Aweber, Mailchimp or Convert Kit. As you’re collecting customer’s private data it’s best to invest in a secure and reliable third party service, such as these. We can set this up for you, however, these services do charge as well. For example, Aweber charges approximately $20.00 per month.
Can I update the website myself?
Yes you can, we use WordPress to build your website which means you can make changes yourself without knowing how to code. We will also teach you how to use it with a series of helpful videos.
How many pages do I get with my website?
You can have an unlimited amount of pages on your website. We will usually design you 3-5 pages layouts i.e. A homepage, a blog page, an inner page e.g. your about page. You can then use whichever layout you want for each new page you want to add.
Will you write the text for me?
It depends on the package you choose. We are happy to write the text for your website if you would like. We have a copywriter in house who will create the content for your website so you don’t have to.
How can you write the text for my website without knowing the business like I do?
We will ask you a series of questions before we begin, then we will research your market and suggest a series of pages for your website. We’ll learn as much as we need to know to create compelling words that inspire people to get in touch.
How do you build my website?
We design your website from scratch using a number of tools. We use photoshop for the first stage of the design and then move it onto the website using a platform known as WordPress.
For a full breakdown of our entire web design process, you can consult us.
I don’t want to use WordPress, can I choose something else?
Yes, we build websites on multiple platforms. WordPress | Shopify | Laravel | React | Vue | Node Js | React JS. We will provide information accordingly and you can choose which platform you would like your website to be.
I already have a website, how easy is it to change it?
If you already have a website. That’s great. This means we can build your new website whilst your other website is still live. Once we are ready to go live and you are happy with the new site we can then swap the old site for the new one. It can take as little as 10 minutes for the new website to be visible. This means you’ll barely even notice a dip in your traffic numbers.
Will my website be mobile friendly?
Yes. Your website will be fully responsive and will look great on all devices. We don’t charge extra for this. It comes as standard.
How long will it take to get to the first page of Google?
It depends. There’s no clear answer to this question as search engines change their requirements all the time. However, we have had clients get to the first page for their main keywords within 1 month of launching and we’ve had websites take 2–3 months for Google to show them on the first page.
However, there is no guarantee you will ever get to the first page of Google for your main keywords, some of your competitors might have huge marketing budgets or have been there for years.
Do I actually need a website?
If you want to expand the business, get more enquiries or become the go to person in your space then you should have a website.
My new business idea will be huge, maybe the next Facebook. Can you help?
No. Websites like Facebook, Amazon and Twitter are not like standard websites. They require hundreds or thousands of hours of work just to get the website launched. Not to mention that you’ll need a team of developers on hand 24 hours a day to keep the website running smoothly.
Will you buy stock images for me?
Yes. We will purchase the images for your website. We use stock image websites such as Depositphotos, Shutterstock and 123rf to buy professional images so that you don’t have to pay a photographer.
Do I need hosting?
Yes. Hosting is like renting space on the internet. You’ll need to buy hosting otherwise people won’t be able to access your website.
How much does hosting cost?
Hosting usually costs less than $100 per year. It can cost a lot more depending on your requirements. Hosting prices usually increase the more website visitors you have.
Who hosts the website?
If we build your website, we will usually host it for you and you don’t need to do anything. We pay the hosting fee for the first year and we’ll send you an invoice once a year thereafter. Alternatively, you can host the website elsewhere and manage it yourself. It’s completely up to you.
Will you buy the domain for me?
Of course. You’re buying a website from us. It’s the least we can do. As long as it’s available for purchase, we’ll buy it for you and pay for the first year. We’ll send you an annual invoice for the renewal along with the hosting fees.
Obviously, if the domain name costs more than the average of $10- $20, then we’d have to discuss this with you!
Who will own the domain?
You will own the domain. We will register the domain in your name and address and it belongs to you. This means you have ultimate control over it.
Do you do SEO for my website when you build it?
It depends which package you choose. SEO is usually an ongoing commitment and will require continuous work. However, we do offer a package that will start you off on the right foot.
The Digital Elite website plan includes basic on-page SEO for 10 pages. This means we’ll perform keyword research and optimise it for search engines.
How much does SEO cost?
It can vary dramatically but our monthly SEO plans begin at $800+Tax per month. This is generally a starter plan for a local business with a moderate amount of competition.
Some of our other clients pay over $1200+VAT per month for our SEO services. It really depends on how much work will be required and how much competition you have in your industry.
How do I know if the SEO is working?
We track your rankings using our reliable software. We get updates everyday and we’ll be able to see what’s working and what isn’t. We’ll send you a monthly report so you can see your traffic numbers and rankings. Here are some of the recent rankings from our previous clients.
Do you work with everyone?
No. We only work with business owners who we can TRULY help. We’re not the type of company who work with anyone and everyone just to make money. We need to be confident that we are the right fit for one another. This is why we have a free discovery session at the start of the process. Here are 7 reasons you SHOULDN’T work with us.
Do you only serve customers in the USA/Canada?
Most of our clients are not based in the USA/Canada. Although our HQ is, we serve clients and business owners all over the USA and we also have many international customers including UK, Switzerland, Canada and even Australia.
The type of business we run means we can work with any business anywhere in the world.
Will you meet with me face to face?
No. All of our client meetings are done over Skype or via the phone. It’s rare that we NEED to meet people face to face. Technology allows us to do so much in a small space of time so we don’t believe face to face meetings are necessary.
We are always happy to meet you in person if you really need us to but we’ll arrange a consultation price for travel and possible accommodation depending on the distance.
Do you set up my Facebook, twitter page etc?
Typically not. Social media is not a part of the web design process. However, we are always looking for ways to make your life easier. If you’d like us to do this for you, we can arrange a package that suits you.
Thanks for the good article, I hope you continue to work as well.
